Blur will be joined by Sleaford Mods for their sold-out Wembley Stadium show on July 8.
The group will play two nights at the venue – with a second gig booked for July 9 – both of which will also feature Phil Daniels as a very special guest.
Also joining the Wembley Stadium line-up for July 8 is singer-songwriter Self Esteem and electro-pop duo Jockstrap, while July 9 will see Paul Weller and The Selecter open for Blur. DJs Steve Davis and John Doran & Kavus Torabi are also set to entertain crowds at the shows.
The last remaining tickets for Sunday, July 9 are on sale now.
Coinciding with the reunion shows, Blur will release their new album, ‘The Ballad of Darren‘, on July 21, with its lead single, The Narcissist, out now.
The band’s first LP since 2015’s ‘The Magic Whip’ was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Depeche Mode) and recorded at Studio 13 in London and Devon.
Speaking about the project, frontman Damon Albarn describes ‘The Ballad Of Darren’ as “an aftershock record” and a “reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now”.
“The older and madder we get, it becomes more essential that what we play is loaded with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job,” adds Graham Coxon.
Bassist Alex James notes that “for any long term relationship to last with any meaning you have to be able to surprise each other somehow and somehow we all continue to do that,” while drummer Dave Rowntree admits their reunion only feels “natural”.
“With every record we do, the process reveals something new and we develop as a band. We don’t take that for granted,” he explains.
The artwork for the album features an image of Gourock lido in Renfrewshire by British photographer Martin Parr.
