The music legend recently returned with ‘Kismet‘ – her five-track EP, written by Diane Warren, featuring the singles Big Big Love and If U Go and marking her first pop collection in over 25 years.
“Diane’s songwriting is both a joy and mystery to me,” says the Mad About You star. “She makes it look so easy, where I imagine it must be unbelievably hard, to do what she does so amazingly well over so many years and so many records.
“I can’t thank her enough for writing this music for me and I only hope everyone else loves it as much as I do.”
Belinda shared details of her latest project in an exclusive interview with RETROPOP’s January 2023 issue, revealing she’s also working on a brand new studio album with writer and producer Gabe Lopez.
“The working title is ‘Once Upon a Time in California’, because that’s really where it all began for me. Everything’s done, all the artwork – I just have to finish the songs,” she said. “After I made ‘Wilder Shores’, people were complaining like, ‘Why don’t you do something in English?’ And I said, ‘Well, whatever I do has to really mean something’.
“After I got sober, ‘Voila’ was the first time I was able to work from the heart and just love what I was doing. I have to really love it; I can’t just put out an English-language pop album for the sake of it. So that’s why this is a surprise. I didn’t really expect to get excited about the classic pop songs until I was given the most amazing songs from Diane.”
