BBC Radio 6 Music will play Prince’s iconic 1987 album Sign O’ The Times in full on 30 July to kick off the station’s celebration of iconic albums.
To mark 33 1/3 years since the release of the record, which dropped in March 1987, Mary Anne Hobbs will air the album in full during a special three-hour programme.
She will also speak to “the people who were right at the heart of the album’s creation”, as well as journalist and super fan Mobeen Azhar.
The album, which includes hits If I Was Your Girlfriend, U got The Look, and the title track, was largely shaped by the reception to Prince’s previous two projects – 1986’s Parade and the film Under The Cherry Moon.
Stories surrounding Sign O’ The Times include smashed guitars, the dissolution of The Revolution, record label battles, and happy accidents in the studio with engineer Susan Rogers.
The celebration comes ahead of the re-release of Sign O’ The Times on 2 LP peach vinyl, 2 CD and 3 CD sets, a 4 LP edition, and a massive 8 CD + DVD or 13 LP + DVD super deluxe edition.
Tune into the special programme from 1 pm on 30 July on BBC Radio 6 Music.
