Depeche Mode and U2 will take the stage at Maida Vale for performances as part of BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room series.

Both acts will join presenter Gary Davies – who is taking over Ken Bruce for 10 weeks, before Vernon Kay permanently occupies the slot – to perform a trio of songs; a new track, a classic and a cover version.

Along with rising star Cat Burns, who will also perform a set, they’ll be joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra, with the one-off shows set to air over the coming weeks.

Gary Davies says: “U2 are quite simply my favourite band ever so to interview Bono and The Edge and see their Piano Room performance was a dream come true for me.

“Follow that up with the legendary Depeche Mode, who have crafted some of the best loved songs in the world, and amazing new talent Cat Burns, and I can safely say that Radio 2’s Piano Room really has a treat in store for listeners.”

Jeff Smith, Head of Music, Radio 2, says: “Radio 2 offers its 14 million listeners the finest live music offering of any radio station in the UK, and I’m very proud of our stunning Piano Room month in February which delivered exquisite performances from some of our listeners’ favourite artists, including Suzanne Vega, Haircut 100 and P!nk.

“Hot on its heels, we now announce three more stunning performances to be added to the Piano Room canon – Bono and The Edge with orchestra, and Depeche Mode and Cat Burns delivering unique performances accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.”

U2’s Piano Room – starring Bono and The Edge – will air on March 16, followed by Depeche Mode on April 6 and Cat on April 20.
