Alison Goldfrapp has offered the lastest taste of her upcoming album, ‘Flux’, with brooding new track Sound & Light.
The third offering from the LP – following Find Xanadu and Reverberotic – was the first to be written for the record and was written during a trip to Sweden in pursuit of the Northern Lights.
“I’d been chasing the Northern Lights for years,” she says. “I’d gone to Finland, Iceland and Norway but never managed to catch them.”
Soon after writing the tune, the Love Invention singer witnessed them for the first time, “almost like she had summoned them through song”.
Co-produced with Swedish artist Stefan Storm and with strings from Davide Rossi, Sound & Light captures what she calls “the excitement of an open vista and wanting to embrace a new feeling of emotional freedom”.

‘Flux’ is the first album to be released on the singer-songwriter’s own independent label, A.G. Records, and serves as the follow-up to 2023’s ‘The Love Invention’.
Speaking about the project and taking ownership of her material, Alison says: “If you’re lucky enough to have the option, owning your own masters feels like a no-brainer these days.
“While being a solo independent artist comes with its own set of challenges, it truly suits me and has given myself and the people I work with a sense of empowerment and invigoration for this album.”
‘Flux’ is out August 15 and available to pre-order from Alison Goldfrapp’s store, Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more.
