ABBA’s 1977 feature-length movie is returning to cinema screens for its 45th anniversary.
Captured by director Lasse Hallström during their mega-successful tour of Australia, the newly remastered film takes fans on a flashback journey to the group’s 1970s heyday.
Including backstage footage as well as full-length performances of some of ABBA’s greatest hits, the film provides a rare look at the Swedish supergroup during the height of their popularity.
Meanwhile, its mockumentary-style subplot sees a country radio disc-jockey attempt to land an interview with the band, as he tries and fails to slip past their committed bodyguard.
‘ABBA: The Movie’ shows in cinemas across the US and Canada on May 12 and 14.
Meanwhile, the group will return as digital ABBAtars for their east London residency at the specially-built ABBA Arena, opening May 27.
ABBA’s ninth album ‘Voyage’ includes the singles I Still Have Faith In You, Don’t Shut Me Down, Just a Notion and Little Things.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Voyage’ “a fitting closing chapter in the tale of Sweden’s best-loved musical export”.
‘Voyage’ is available on CD, vinyl and cassette.
