Avril Lavigne has been recognised for her contributions to music with the Order of Canada.
Ahead of her Glastonbury debut on Sunday (June 30), the Sk8er Boi hitmaker was revealed as the latest recipient of the honour, which “recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honour to our country abroad.”
On awarding Avril the title, Canadian Governor General Mary Simon says on her official website: “Avril Lavigne is one of the best-selling female artists of all time. With over 50 million albums sold worldwide, she paved the way for female-driven punk-rock music and continues to do so today.”
“Generous with her time, she supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.”
It comes ahead of the Girlfriend star’s forthcoming appearance at Worthy Farm, following the release of her ‘Greatest Hits‘ LP, amid an ongoing run of global tour dates.
