Eurovision 2024 organisers have unveiled the stage design that will host performers in Malmö, Sweden.
Designed by Fredrik Stormby from the Sweden-based Green Wall Designs, renowned as one of the world’s leading creative studios for crafting captivating visual experiences in the world of live entertainment, he’ll will head up the creative division, working alongside the senior production team along with production designer Florian Wieder, to help create, design and deliver a large-scale and spectacular show to a global audience of over 160 million.
With a knack for crafting captivating visual experiences in the world of live entertainment, specialising in video, lighting and scenic elements, the team has contributed to some of the most thrilling live productions in recent memory, such as Loreen’s winning performance at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, alongside ‘ABBA Voyage’ and Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance World Tour’.
The Eurovision set-up is a unique 360-degree experience that surrounds the audience and viewers in the Malmö Arena. The stage is placed in the middle of the audience and shaped like a cross. Movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video, and stage technology will be able to create great variations in the arena.
It’s a format that puts the audience more in focus than ever before and viewers will experience a visually revolutionary concept, with the stage placed in the centre of the arena and the focal point of the design a monumental installation – a “centre piece” of video and light above the stage, where the lighting design is designed to embrace the artists and their performances.
Together, these elements make it possible to create many unique looks for the various entries, thus bringing live and TV audiences closer to the action.
With an aim to execute the event exclusively using LED and laser light sources to achieve lower constant power consumption, the lighting design for the 2024 Contest encompasses approximately 2,000 light fixtures and 12 follow-spot systems.
Stormby says: “We believe that together we have created what is an unexpected and updated concept for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 and are looking forward to showing it off for real! I am honoured to have been commissioned to design the light and video in collaboration with the team from our studio, and the production team that SVT has put into place for the project.
“We’ve developed a strong concept together, and I’m really looking forward to the continued collaboration in production, the creative process with the delegations, and eventually getting my teeth into the show and doing the broadcasts!”
Sharing his joy at being “part of the Eurovision family again”, Wieder adds: “Putting together an exceptional show is a team effort and I’m proud to be part of a dream team of professionals – just the right constellation of people to come up with something different and new. We all have the same vision of what this show should be and how to take Eurovision to the next level, and for me Sweden is always a guarantor of good music and entertainment.”
