Elton John rounded out his 333-date ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour in Stockholm, Sweden and was treated to a special tribute from Coldplay.
Chris Martin and co., who were playing in the nearby city of Gothenburg at the same time, dialled in via live-stream following a rendition of the music legend’s iconic hit, Rocket Man.
The Yellow singer said: “We want to say from all of us here, all the artists you’ve loved and inspired and helped – we love you so much, we’re so grateful for everything you’ve done for us.
Thanking Elton for his contributions to music, fashion, and his work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the musician added: “We love you so much. Happy retirement and we’re going to miss you so much.”
During the final stop of the tour, the hitmaker treated fans to classics from across the decades, and in closing out the night shared an emotional message with the crowd, who he thanked for a lifetime of support.
“You have no idea how much that means to me,” he confessed. “I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. 52 years of pure joy playing music, how lucky am I to play music?”
Elton continued: “It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys and you’ve been absolutely magnificent – thank you. I will never forget you guys.
“I’ve played so many concerts, how could I forget? You’re in my head, and my heart and my soul and I thank you so much.”
Although he confirmed the concert would be his final touring date, Elton hinted there may still be “one-off” performances in the future.
