Coldplay will release their final studio album in 2025. 

The group recently revealed plans to quit recording after their 12th album and, speaking to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, Chris Martin confirmed the band will stop releasing new music but continue to tour with their existing catalogue.

“Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” he shared. 

“Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then.”

Speaking about the decision while promoting the band’s ninth album, ‘Music of the Spheres’, Chris previously mused: “I think that in a few albums time we will finish making albums.

“This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue… [but] I think we will always want to play live together.

“So, I think in the way that the Stones do, it will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late 70s. 

“That will be wonderful, if anybody wants to come.”

Coldplay’s latest album was preceded by lead track Higher Power, which they premiered via live link to astronauts on the International Space Station.

In a review of the album, Retro Pop said ‘Music of the Spheres’ is “well crafted” but “lacking in excitement and spontaneity”.

The album is available on CD and limited vinyl.
