Matt Hoy, vocalist for UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro, claims to have been forced out of the band due to his reluctance to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
The singer has long performed with the splinter group, which formed when Ali and Astro quit UB40 back in 2008 and 2013, respectively, to form the new band.
However, according to the singer he is no longer involved in the project, as a medical condition has forced him from being vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Back in early May it was made clear to me by UB40 management and artist, that unless I received the covid vaccine, I would no longer be permitted to be apart of the band,” he shared in a social media statement.
“Unfortunately I have an underlying medical condition, which leaves me unable to receive the jab.”
Matt continued: “I have had an amazing 10 years with the band, but unfortunately it can be no more.
“Thank you all for your endless support, love and encouragement.
“Here’s to the future…”
Retro Pop has reached out to representatives for UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro for comment.
His exit comes days after Duncan Campbell announced he is to step down as frontman of the other iteration of the reggae group after suffering a seizure earlier this month.
The singer, who previously had a stroke in August 2020, has been forced to exit the Red Red Wine group to focus on his recovery.
In a statement, he said: “Unfortunately, due to continued ill health, I have reluctantly decided to retire from the band so as to focus on my recovery.”
A replacement is to be announced imminently.
