Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez is headed behind the camera as she inks a first-look production deal with Netflix.
According to Deadline, the multi-year deal spans feature films, TV series and unscripted content, and has a focus on projects that support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers.
“I am excited to announce my new partnership with Netflix,” says the star. “Elaine, Benny and I believe there is no better home for us than a forward leaning content creation company that seeks to defy conventional wisdom and directly market to the millions across the globe who no longer view art and entertainment with the kind of boundaries and limitations of the past.
“We at Nuyorican Productions are thrilled to find like-minded partners in Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber, Bela Bajaria and the whole team and look forward to getting to work right away.”
The On The Floor hitmaker co-runs Nuyorican Productions with her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and already has two feature projects in the works; the Niki Caro-directed The Mother, and The Cipher, based on the Isabella Maldonado novel.
The Mother follows a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to teach her daughter how to survive, with the star currently training for the role, which films later this year and hits screens late 2022.
And Jennifer isn’t focusing solely on movie work – she recently took to social media to tease new music set to drop in the coming months.
Sharing a snap of herself in the recording booth, the Dance Again singer wrote: “Sexy summer fun coming.”
The new release will be Jennifer’s first single since 2020’s In The Morning. Meanwhile, it’s been seven years since she released her most recent studio album ‘A.K.A.’ in 2014.
