Rick Astley is back with his ’80s inspired single Unwanted.
The track, which serves as the theme to the Qcode podcast of the same name, opens with Astley’s voice as looping instrumentation leaks in as a nostalgic backdrop to the star’s timeless vocals.
The Together Forever hitmaker co-wrote and co-produced the track with Qcode’s Deron Johnson, sharing: “I’ve known Deron for years and we’ve always said we’d work on something together, and we finally have.
“For me, the brief was that the creators wanted something to emulate the feelings and emotions of all those great Eighties TV shows where our heroes are hunting somebody down and you tune in each week to find out how close they are getting,” he told Rolling Stone.
The track is rick’s first new music since his 2020 holiday single, Love This Christmas, and comes as the star prepares to hit the road on his sold-out ‘Greatest Hits’ Tour.
Rick previously dropped the charity single Every One Of Us alongside The Unsung Heroes to celebrate the Unsung Hero Awards 2020. The track continues to raise money for the BBC’s Children In Need.
He said of the track: “When I was asked to launch a single in honour of Unsung Hero and to raise money for BBC Children in Need I didn’t hesitate.
“Both are brilliant causes and I hope the song can bring a bit of joy and solidarity during what has been a strange and unprecedented year.”
