Stevie Nicks is back with her first new solo music in six years – the seven-minute epic Show Them the Way.
The track, written by the Fleetwood Mac star in the run-up to the 2008 US presidential election, is based on a dream in which the singer performed for influential figures including The Kennedys and Martin Luther King, Jr.
“This dream was so really real that there was a little bit of me, for a minute, when I sat up was like, ‘Did that just really happen?’,” she tells Rolling Stone.
“So I wrote it down just in prose. I didn’t write it down in a seven verse poem. I wrote down what had happened.”
Two versions of Show Them the Way have been released – an acoustic, piano-only take and a full-band recording that features Dave Stewart on guitar and Dave Grohl on drums.
A Cameron Crowe-directed music video is also on the way.
