Wendy James’ music video for her latest single The Impression of Normalcy is directed by a fan she reached out to on Instagram.
The Tansvision Vamp star was so impressed with David Leigh Dodd’s recreation of the promo for her song Bad Intentions and a Bit of Cruelty that she enlisted him to work on her latest project.
She tells the Daily Star: “David tagged me on Instagram with his video of Bad Intentions, where his girlfriend played me and David played the male role.
“I thought, ‘Wow, that’s great’,” Wendy admits. “Soon after, David had Photoshopped my album cover so it looked like it was on every billboard on Broadway.
“It was so well done that, when I posted it online, fans thought it was real and that I’d suddenly got Lady Gaga’s budget.”
The Impression of Normalcy is lifted from the star’s 2020 album ‘Queen High Straight’, which she’ll tour across the UK over the coming months.
“My live band are all in their 30s, so they’ve got tons of energy and commitment,” she continues. “I didn’t choose them for their age, but it’s perhaps more attractive for the audience to see vital young people.
“My tour has been delayed three times and now I can’t wait to get out there and have a good time with the audiences.”
And as she’s working on new music, the Baby I Don’t Care hitmaker admits she’s becoming “too self-reflective” in her lyrics.
“I don’t want to end up sounding like Taylor Swift, as successful as she is,” she laughs. “I’m having to warn myself not to make my new songs sound too self-reflective.
“I’m known for punchy, semi aggressive lyrics. I’d like that to carry on.”
