Spandau Ballet’s Gold was played at the first Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace since the start of the pandemic.
The classic tune was the musical backdrop paying tribute to the success of the Team GB Olympians at the Tokyo 2020 games.
It was included among a selection of songs, alongside Olympic Fanfare and Theme, Chariots of Fire, and Whitney Houston’s One Moment In Time.

Sharing a clip of the group’s classic hit – which he also wrote – Gary Kemp said: “Always an honour to hear this.
“Proud songwriter moment,” he added.
In a post on his Instagram Stories, singer Tony Hadley added: “So honoured for the Ceremonial Musicians to have done their first performance since March to Gold!
“What a brilliant job!”
The military spectacle was halted around 18 months ago to avoid attracting huge crowds of tourists during lockdown.
It returned on Monday, August 22 with the new guard, the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards, marching from nearby Wellington Barracks to the palace to take over the duty from the old guard, Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards.
Although the Queen was absent while in Scotland on her annual break at Balmoral, scores of tourists gathered to watch.
