Kylie Minogue performed her latest hit, Padam Padam, live for the first time during Sunday night’s ‘American Idol’ finale.
The superstar took to the stage to debut the lead single from her 16th album, ‘Tension’, and stunned in a high-slit black dress and over the knee leather boots.
With red tips in her signature blonde hair, she performed the first verse and chorus to the infectious tune, before segueing into her classic hit, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, which featured vocals from ‘Idol’ contestant Nutsa.
Alongside Kylie, the finale also featured appearances from Ellie Goulding, Pitbull, James Blunt and TLC, all of whom performed for viewers and the show’s judges: Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
It proved to be a historic night in the show’s 20-year franchise as Iam Tongi was named winner at just 18 years old.

Padam Padam is one of 11 tracks on ‘Tension’ – alongside previous release 10 out of 10 with Oliver Heldens – of which Kylie says: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song.
“I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
For the LP, the pop icon has worked with a number of producers, with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie adds: “I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!
“The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
