Vanessa Williams can’t wait to return to the stage once the coronavirus lockdown is over.
The star is hoping to hit the London stage this summer after learning her play, City of Angels, is set to start up again at the end of May.
“The last we heard from the producers… is that the theatres will be closed until the end of May,” she said during an appearance on The Talk.
“I’m hoping that that means we can start rehearsing and can get it up by June/July and at least get somewhat of a run… We were cooking, we were doing so well. We loved each other. The music is fantastic… and it hadn’t been done in years. We were really looking forward to it.
“Unfortunately, the world changed… Right before we closed… we got there (the theatre) and we were gonna do a little warm-up and then get ready to do the show Monday night. We knew Boris Johnson was going to do a talk at five o’clock and we all sat in the theatre and they played it on the loudspeakers and it was like listening to a wartime (speech).”
After the news was announced, Vanessa’s evening show was cancelled, and the star marked her last night of freedom with a much needed night on the town.
Now, she’s self-isolating in New York, and she said she can’t wait to get back to the UK again.
“In the West End, they have tea breaks instead of coffee breaks,” she quipped. “Everyone goes to their room and makes a cup of tea, has a nice biscuit… It’s just much more civilised… It’s proper and lovely.”
