Tony Hadley’s pay cheque for his upcoming Singapore concert may be a little less than he expected, after calling out one of its big sponsors during a recent disagreement.

Last week, the former Spandau Ballet star came to the defence of 32-year-old fan Muhammad Shalehanhe, who lost out on $10,000 for apparently mispronouncing the star’s name in the Celebrity Name Drop quiz on Gold 905.

After hearing about the incident, the Gold singer, who’s currently in lockdown in the UK, sent a video to Muhammad, saying: “Hi Muhammad. I’ve listened back to the tape, and as far as I’m concerned, you pronounced my name absolutely correctly.

“You might have had a slight accent, but as far as I’m concerned, you said my name correctly, so you should be entitled to whatever the prize was.”

Speaking on Lorraine on Tuesday, however, the True star joked his good will may have backfired, after realising Gold 905 is sponsoring his Singapore show later this year.

“The ironic thing about this business with the radio station in Singapore, they are the sponsors of my concert I’m doing on October 10th, so when I come to collect my fee there may be a little bit less!” he quipped.

Speaking from Singapore, and meeting Tony Hadley for the first time, Muhammad gushed: “A really big thank you, you are my idol right now.”

On what he would be spending the windfall on, he added: “I’m going to save it for my baby, number four is coming in August.

“I’m over the moon right now, I’m living my moment actually.”

Tony could have a busy end to 2020, after former bandmate Martin Kemp suggested Spandau Ballet should reunite for a special NHS benefit gig.
