The Weeknd is diving headfirst into pop territory with Take My Breath, the lead track from his forthcoming fifth album.
His last album ‘After Hours’ saw the star take strong ‘80s influences on chart smashes like Save Your Tears, In Your Eyes and the massive Blinding Lights, and the success appears to have inspired his new direction.
After debuting the track on digital platforms, the hitmaker shared its official music video online, writing across social media, “THE DAWN IS HERE !!!”
New music comes after The Weeknd, who worked with Swedish producer Max Martin on his recent hits, recently admitted he’s “really proud” of his upcoming album and insisted it’s “a full body of work”.
Describing the set in a recent GQ interview, he called the collection, “a project packed with party records… Quincy Jones meets Giorgio Moroder meets the best-night-of-your-f**king-life party records”.
His previous LP, which infused his R&B roots with synth-laden pop, topped the charts worldwide and produced three US No. 1 singles.
