The Wanted are set to go head-to-head with Elton John and Gary Barlow with their new Christmas single.
The boyband returned last month with the announcement of ‘Most Wanted – The Greatest Hits’, featuring their best-loved tracks and first new music in seven years.
According to The Sun, one of the new tunes is a holiday single, placing the group in the running for the coveted Christmas No. 1 spot.
However, nothing’s guaranteed, as Elton is set to team up with Ed Sheeran for a new seasonal single.
Ed confirmed the collaboration in an interview with NME – and it didn’t take Elton long to confirm the pair were hoping to knock LadBaby from securing the top spot for a fourth consecutive year.
“He let the cat out of the bag didn’t he? I was sworn to secrecy and then big-mouth f**king Sheeran goes to the Netherlands,” he laughed.
“ It’s supposed to come out – we haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done.”
Elton added: “We’ve got the sausage roll man to deal with. He seems to have the monopoly on Christmas records. Good for him.”
Meanwhile, Gary Barlow is set to announce his debut holiday LP imminently, with Leona Lewis also believed to be readying a second Christmas album.
The Wanted released their comeback track Rule the World earlier this month and returned to the stage with a performance on the ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ telethon.
‘Most Wanted – The Greatest Hits’, out November 12, is available to pre-order on CD and Cassette.
