The Overtones have big plans for the future as the group opens up on the artists they’d love to collaborate with.
The four-piece is set to return to the charts this week with ‘10’, celebrating a decade since the group made their debut with Gambling Man.
On the record, they team up with West End superstars Michael Ball and Marisha Wallace on Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You and Stars, respectively, and they’re keen to work on more duets in the future.
Speaking exclusively to Retro Pop about the artists they’d love to collaborate with, singer Darren Everest admitted it would be “an experience” to work with Kylie Minogue, but confessed he’d “rather have a Bruno Mars collaboration”.
“Something like that would be cool,” he beamed, with bandmate Mark Franks adding: “Yeah, that’d be pretty awesome.
“There’s some crazy talented new artists out there, it’d be good to collaborate with someone that’s a totally different style. Like, Doja Cat…
Darren agreed: “She’s great. It would be cool to do something with an edgy, new artist.”
When it comes to the future of their sound, the group is also open to change, insisting they “wouldn’t rule anything out”.
“There’s so many things we can do,” reflected Darren. “Mark’s a big fan of the ‘80s, so I’m sure Mark would love us to kind of go down that route where we’re enjoying the disco sound.
“There’s still Motown and soul songs that we all want to do… We might even take it back to doo-wop!”
