Tegan and Sara have released I Can’t Grow Up as the latest single from their forthcoming album ‘Crybaby’.

The track is a self-described “snotty nosed pop song about not being able to grow out of bad habits in relationships.”

According to Sara, the song “was musically inspired by Chicago band Dehd and their album ‘Flower of Devotion’”.

“The song started on bass, an instrument I’d never written with until ‘Crybaby’, and I was channelling a little bit of Emily Kempf from Dehd, and Peter Hook from New Order,” she explained.

“My partner had travelled back to the US, after a year of being stuck in Canada during the pandemic, and I was enjoying late nights alone writing music and singing full tilt in the basement.”.

The official video, directed by Mark Myers, matches the song’s playfulness and the duo’s charisma.

The duo will support ‘Crybaby’ with a run of North American tour dates at intimate venues, beginning October 26 in Philadelphia and wrapping November 20 in the twin sisters’ current Vancouver homebase.

‘Crybaby’ is out October 21 and available to pre-order now.
