Take That are plotting to return with new music in 2023.
The group is currently on hiatus as frontman Gary Barlow continues to promote his chart-topping solo album, Music Played by Humans, but he’s insisted the trio will be back.
Speaking to Heat magazine, the musician shares that he, Howard Donald and Mark Owen are taking a “little chunk of time away,” but teased they’ll return in a couple of years alongside The Greatest Days – a movie based on the band.
“Everyone at the end of the last tour wanted to [record a new album], but we’ve been on this treadmill of album/tour every two years for about 14 years and everyone really wanted a little chunk of time away,” explains the Incredible singer.
“So, I’m trying to be respectful but I just can’t do that personally,” he shares. “I like writing, producing, touring – so I need to do my own thing.
“But maybe in 2023, because we have this movie that’s being shot next year called ‘The Greatest Days’ and I’m hoping when it’s released we can kind of tour off the back of it.”
Opening up about the film, which is based on the stage show also inspired by Take That’s success, he adds: “Our stage show, The Band, was spotted by a film company about a year ago.
“They’re going to shoot it in England and Italy next year so it’s properly coming. And the best thing is, I’m not in it. I think we may get a cameo role somewhere near the end, but that will be it.”
Take That formed as a five-piece in 1990, and enjoyed success until they disbanded in 1996. They later reunited in 2005 as a four-piece, without Robbie, and now perform with Gary, Mark, and Howard, following former member Jason Orange’s departure in 2014.
