Surfaces have released their latest track What’s Been On Your Mind?.
The Texas-based pop duo return with the follow-up to the groovy I Can’t Help But Feel, lifted from their forthcoming album.
“What’s Been On Your Mind’ is a story of helping someone who needs to heal from a place that they can’t yet communicate about,” the duo explain. “At times when we’re hurting it feels selfish or vulnerable to open up to others and it’s often just easier to put up a facade.
“This story chases the idea that if you truly know and love someone, you’ll always be able to see through that face, that front, that safety net of words… and break down the walls that will lead to a healthier escape.”
Speaking in Retro Pop’s May 2022 issue, Surfaces open up about their forthcoming LP, revealing they’re planning to experiment with new sounds.
“We had this direction that we were moving in, this gospel/ hip-hop/ beachy kinda thing,” says singer Forrest Frank. “Meanwhile, we were listening to different music. So now, we’re making music like we’ve been listening to.”
Citing indie-rockers MGMT and psychedelic stars Tame Impala and Beach House as influences, the pair insist their philosophy is “all about staying natural and not forcing anything”.
“I think that’s our biggest thing,” adds Forrest, “and whatever comes through on that road of faith will make sense for you.”
