Sugababes have shared their plans to work on new music.
The trio – starring Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy – returned to the charts last year with their surprise eighth album ‘The Lost Tapes’.
Comprising tracks recorded almost 10 years ago when the group was performing as MKS, it’s official release has prompted calls from fans for more new material – and according to the girls, it’s on the cards.
“We definitely have plans for new material, for sure,” Keisha told NME. “We’re trying to focus all of our energy at the moment, we’re trying to balance the shows that we’re going to do this summer.
“September 15 we’re at The O2, we’re here!” she added during a chat on the BRITs red carpet. “We’ve got such a busy jam-packed year, but we’d love to do new stuff.”
On the reaction to ‘The Lost Tapes’, Siobhan continued: “Considering it’s a completely independent release [and] we literally just dropped the album, you don’t know what’s going to happen; but it’s been an incredible response.
“I think on the download only [charts] – as we didn’t have any physical release, we just dropped it as a surprise – I think it was number two on the download charts… So for us as an independent act, that’s incredible.”
According to insiders, record labels are vying to work with the group, with sources claiming: “There are lots of nineties and noughties acts which reunite and it’s a bit cheesy and full of nostalgia, but the original Sugababes are actually cool, credible artists.
“They have really impressed people at the major labels this year with their voices. The reaction from fans proves they are really a viable act to have huge success with new music.
“They have some great ideas for songs and reckon they can win over a whole new generation of Sugababes fans. The hope is that they will sign to a label at the beginning of the year and have new music out at some point in the next 12 months.”
Sugababes will return to the stage with a massive gig at London’s The O2 arena on September 15, which is their biggest headline show to date.
