Victoria Beckham gave a young Sugababes a “pep talk” as they nervously awaited a TV performance early in their career.
The trio – starring Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy – was appearing on ‘CD:UK’ when they ran into their “idol” backstage.
Speaking to Rebecca Judd on Apple Music, Keisha shared: “I remember we did ‘CD:UK’ and at the time Victoria Beckham was doing her solo stuff.
“I remember meeting her and being so excited because I was a huge Spice Girls fan. We all were. In year seven I got loads of girls together and I was like, ‘Right, we need to make a band. We need to perform like the Spice Girls’.”
In their excitement at meeting Posh Spice, the girls didn’t even notice her husband, footballer David Beckham, was also in the building.
Siobhan added: “I love that David Beckham was sat outside the room and none of us even noticed him. We were like, ‘Whatever.’
“She was really lovely, she gave us a little pep talk before we went on and it was quite nice. She was like, ‘Have fun.’ She was trying to relax us and make sure we weren’t nervous. She was really lovely.”
Last year, Sugababes returned to the stage with a string of summer shows and a UK tour throughout the autumn, before surprise-releasing ‘The Lost Tapes‘ – their unreleased album from 2013 – on Christmas Eve.
This year, they will return to the stage with a massive gig at London’s The O2 arena on September 15, which is their biggest headline show to date.
Tickets are on general sale now.
