Stevie Nicks won’t be returning to the stage this year amid concern over rising cases of Covid-19 across the US.
The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman was due to play a handful of summer festival dates across the country but, in a statement on social media, announced she’d withdrawn from the five gigs.
“These are challenging times with challenging decisions that have to be made,” she penned. “I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising Covid cases should be of concern to all of us.
“While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the 5 performances I had planned for 2021.
“Because singing and performing have been my whole life, my primary goal is to keep healthy so I can continue singing for the next decade or longer.”
The Stand Back singer added: “I’m devastated and I know the fans are disappointed, but we will look towards a brighter 2022.”
Fans applauded the decision and thanked the star for “protecting your health and ours”.
“Thank you for doing the responsible thing for yourself, your fans, and the people who work at the venues,” wrote one fan.
“I hope there are better, more pleasant times ahead for us all. We want you around for much more than just one more show!”
Another added: “You are doing what is right and setting the right example etc. Please stay safe and healthy!”
Stevie has since released eight solo albums, including her most recent release ‘24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault’ in 2014.
She has since dropped standalone tracks including the seven-minute epic Show Them the Way and Miley Cyrus collaboration Edge of Midnight.
Earlier this year, the star confirmed she was working on new music with producer Greg Kurstin, while congrating the musician on his ASCAP Golden Note Award.
“I would like to thank you for the brilliant (I think) work that you did for me last year on a song that we did called Show Them the Way,” she beamed. “I wrote it in 2008 and it was just a very difficult song to do – but you figured it out.
“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. Take care, have a great evening, and I’ll see you in a couple of days because we’re working on something.”
