The Spice Girls are planning to reshoot the video for their debut single Wannabe to mark their 25th anniversary, according to a new report
Insiders told The Sun the group were planning to hit the road for a celebratory tour, but the coronavirus pandemic put a stop to that idea. So instead, Melanie C, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Mel B are thinking about filming a new video for their debut hit.
“The Spice Girls were hoping to hit the road in 2021 to mark their big anniversary but now it’s not possible because of the pandemic,” the source shared.
“They’re all in touch weekly and are trying to come up with new ideas on how they can do something special to mark the big day. Mel C suggested doing something around Wannabe – including the idea of possibly re-working the video for social media.
“There are so many options and nothing is off-limits. They want to give the fans something special.”
While the foursome appears keen to celebrate the occasion and honour their first chart-topper, Victoria Beckham – who opted out of the Spice Girls’ Spice World tour last year – is said to be “exceedingly unlikely” to be involved.
The group have previously confirmed their 2019 tour won’t be the last, with Melanie C also promising to film the next jaunt for a commercial release – after they regretted not capturing their last trek.
It comes as Mel prepares to release her new, self-titled album – featuring her new single Fearless – next month.
