Sophie Ellis-Bextor has signed a record deal with her former label, Universal, for new music following the global success of Murder On The Dancefloor.
The star has already confirmed work is underway on new tracks with previous collaborators Cathy Dennis and Richard X, with sources saying Sophie has also reconvened with the label that issued her first three albums.
“Sophie has become a global star again,” an insider said (via Mail On Sunday). “Universal, her old record label, have snapped her up and she will be releasing new music later in the year.
“She is likely to be a bigger star than she was back in the day. It has come out of nowhere for Sophie and she is thrilled and really excited.”
Sophie herself added: “It’s just an extraordinary thing and it’s quite hard to get my head around. It’s feeling a bit more real now, but I’m trying my best to just enjoy it.”
Sophie’s 2001 pop anthem Murder On The Dancefloor has become a global hit after featuring in the final scene of ‘Saltburn’, in which actor Barry Keoghan is seen dancing in the nude to the song.
In response to its viral success, Sophie has announced the reissue of the 2001 hit on CD single and vinyl – the latter of which marks its debut on the format.
