Soft Cell have offered up another preview of their final album ‘Danceteria‘ with latest single ‘The Rainbow Room’.
The brooding mid-tempo track continues the duo’s exploration of their experiences in New York City during the 1980s, where they recorded their earliest albums and landed chart-topping success.
Frontman Marc Almond has noted how the period shaped him and bandmate Dave Ball – who passed away last year, shortly after completing work on the album, aged 66 – “as artists and people”, saying: “To celebrate this period is a fitting farewell to Dave Ball and the final Soft Cell studio album.”

It follows previous singles, including ‘The Space Inside‘, ‘In Heaven (When I Dance With You)‘ and the title song, from the duo’s first body of work since their 2022 comeback record, ‘*Happiness Not Included’, and subsequent companion piece, ‘*Happiness Now Completed’.
It is, Almond has confirmed, the final LP from Soft Cell, insisting: “There can be no more recordings of Soft Cell without Dave, it would not be possible. The sad reality is that Dave Ball was half of Soft Cell, and live work aside, I can’t write Soft Cell songs without him.”
