Sharon Corr lays bare her heartache on her latest solo effort ‘The Fool & The Scorpion’.
The vocalist, who shot to fame in sibling group The Corrs, might be best known for breezy pop numbers like Breathless, Runaway and Summer Sunshine, but she cuts to the heart of her broken marriage on her new collection.
Arriving eight years after her previous release ‘The Same Sun’, the album sees the singer-songwriter rise from the ashes of her separation with poignant lyrics and a cutting delivery.
‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned / May you choke on the tears of a mother’s love,’ she sings on the title track.
Corr explores an array of emotions, from sorrow and solitude to lust and a blind desire for reconciliation – all while navigating her newfound identity as a single parent.
The disarray is clear, with tracks like Freefall and Lend Me Your Shoulder shedding light on both sides of the unfortunate situation.
Despite the change in lyrics, the songs don’t stray too far from familiar territory and could quite easily have formed the next group project.
If ever there was a time for Corr to explore new sonic ground it’s now – but why would she? ‘The Fool & The Scorpion’ sticks with a tried and tested formula that, with a stellar delivery and production from Larry Klein, is both refreshed and relevant.
‘The Fool & The Scorpion’ is available on CD and vinyl (including signed editions).
