Shania Twain has shared her appreciation for famous pal Sean Penn, after the actor/director gave her a financial boost back in the ’90s.
The country-pop legend worked with Penn back in ’93 when he directed the music video for her second single Dance with the One That Brought You, lifted from her self-titled debut album.
It wasn’t until two years later, following the release of ‘The Woman in Me‘, that Shania would make it big and, when she was still a struggling singer, he offered up $100 to help her get by.
Shania tells US TV show Extra: “He said, ‘You look like you need this,’ and he gave me 100 bucks. I needed it… now all these years later I think that was just a really kind thing to do.”
Taking to Instagram, Shania previously reflected on working with Penn and shared a black and white photo of the pair from the classic shoot.
She penned: “Fun fact! @seanpenn directed the music video for ‘Dance With The One That Brought You’ after he reached out to my label to request the job!
“We shot it in the spring of 1993 in LA and he was so kind during the shoot, even helping me out financially before my album took off…”
Shania joked: “I should really pay him back!”
Fans were loving the behind the scenes trivia, with fellow country girl Maren Morris reacting: “WHAT?!”
Hitting up her social media platforms, Shania recently teased another comeback with new music on the horizon.
In a short but sweet cryptic message, she penned: “In new music mode.”
Admitting she has “enough music for three albums,” the Up! star previously shared: “I’ve got a mountain of songs now!
“You know, Covid has lasted so much longer than any of us expected, so I have enough music for three albums now.”
She added writing new music been a constant in what’s been an otherwise unpredictable year.
“I just keep writing and writing and writing and writing. Yeah, it’s good. I have been very productive, yeah,” confessed Shania.
News of new music comes as Shania celebrates her second album, The Woman In Me, with a deluxe Diamond Edition re-release, which is available on CD and vinyl now.
