Shakira rides the waves in the new music video for her latest single Don’t Wait Up.
The track is the first to be lifted from the singer’s forthcoming fifth English language album and is accompanied by a nighttime visual shot in Tenerife.
Alongside scenes of the star living it up in the club, she’s also seen atop a surfboard as she shows off her impressive skills.
She tells Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1: “Those scenes of me riding those waves, it was at two in the morning. From two to five in the morning, three hours in the water.
“I made sure that the water wasn’t cold because I’m such a chicken for cold water, unless I have a full wetsuit. But the director was like, you’re not going with a full wet suit on this video. You’re going to be in a bathing suit, in a bikini.
“I’m like, no, no, no, I’m not going to be in a bikini, surfing in a bikini. I’m not that fit. I need to wear something to hold everything in properly, but okay, I’ll give you some legs. I said that.
“So we kind of compromised. He was very confused because he’s seen me my entire life exposing my midriff, but this time, I was like, no, no, no. I’m going to be on a board. I want to be comfortable, I don’t want to be sucking anything in.
“But I made sure that it wasn’t cold so we went to Tenerife, Spain, and that’s where we shot the video.”
Don’t Wait Up was co-written with Ian Kirkpatrick and Emily Warren, who also penned Don’t Start Now, the lead single from Dua Lipa’s 2020 album ‘Future Nostalgia’.
