Shakira planned to throw the release party for her first English-language album ‘Laundry Service’ in an actual laundrette.
The singer launched the album – her fifth overall – in 2001, and scored massive chart hits with Whenever, Wherever and Underneath Your Clothes.
It landed Shakira in the Top 3 of the UK and US album charts and, looking back on the iconic era, the star tells British Vogue her initial idea to launch the record.
During a ‘Life in Looks’ video on YouTube, the She Wolf hitmaker revisited the outfit she wore to the bash and remembered: “This was at the launch of my album ‘Laundry Service’.
“I wanted to do it in a laundrette, but we couldn’t find one big enough for all of the guests that had to be there.
“It didn’t happen, but we decorated it all as if it were a big laundrette.”
Shakira recently released the album on vinyl for the first time, alongside subsequent English-language releases ‘Oral Fixation Vol. 2’ and ‘She Wolf’.
And the star has confirmed she’s busy recording the follow-up to 2017’s ‘El Dorado’, which is expected to drop in 2022, with a new single due later this month.
Shakira teased: “Songs will continue to come out throughout this year that will end up on an album that I think will be available next year.
“Next year I’m going to be on tour again. I am very excited.”
