Shakira is “never entirely satisfied” with her own music.
The Whenever Wherever hitmaker is currently in the studio working on new music, and she tells Vogue Mexico that when it comes to her work, she’s particularly hard on herself.
“I’m not a big fan of myself,” she explained. “I always listen to the things I’ve done and say, ‘This could have been better’. I’m never entirely satisfied.”
Shakira added: “That dissatisfaction is not entirely negative – it has something good. I never want to go back to what I have already done.”
It comes as the Hips Don’t Lie star revealed she’s busy recording the follow-up to 2017’s ‘El Dorado’, which is expected to drop in 2022.
Revealing she’s set to release her comeback single in July, Shakira teased: “Songs will continue to come out throughout this year that will end up on an album that I think will be available next year.
“Next year I’m going to be on tour again. I am very excited.”
So far, Shakira has released seven Spanish-language albums, and four English-language records in total.
Her last major UK chart placement came in 2014 with her Rihanna collaboration Can’t Remember to Forget You, which peaked at No. 11.
