Samantha Fox is hoping to include a track she co-wrote with the late Steve Strange on her first album in over a decade.
Prior to his death in 2015, the former glamour model teamed up with the Visage star to write tracks for her forthcoming LP.
Speaking about the yet-to-be released album in a previously-unpublished 2017 interview obtained by Retro Pop, the singer opens up about the project and her desire to include a “dedication” to her friend and collaborator.
“I have written songs with Ricky Wilde – Kim Wilde’s brother – who wrote many of her hits,” she says. “I have written two tracks with Katrina from the Waves, who else… Myself, on my own.”
The Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now star continues: “I did write one with Steve Strange; he was ringing me for a couple of years to get together to write and we wrote a couple of songs, but one in particular was really good.
“We went to mix it and I knew he wasn’t well, and then I got a phone call saying he had passed away, so I’d like to put that on the album as a dedication to him.”
Revealing the album is produced by Ian Masterson, with whom she connected over Twitter, Samantha adds: “It’s dance mixed with guitars as well. There are a few lovely ballads; a big big ballad with lots of strings, it’s very dramatic but the sound is great.
“I mean, what he’s done with the songs is just amazing. He’s very talented,” she smiles, adding, “He’s great. He can turn his hand to everything actually. He’s very versatile.”
