RuPaul earned an Emmys record after becoming the most-awarded Black artist in the awards show’s history.
The drag superstar, who has released 13 studio albums and earned a handful of US Dance Top 10 hits – including two No. 1s – won Outstanding Competition Program for ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ at this year’s ceremony for the fourth consecutive year.
Accepting his prize alongside co-judge Michelle Visage, Season 13 winner Symone and runner-up Gottmik, RuPaul said: “Thanks to all our lovely children on our show from around the world.
“They are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life, even more difficult today, this is for you.
“And for you kids out there watching, you have a tribe that is waiting for you. We are waiting for you baby, come on to mama Ru.”
RuPaul, who hosts and executive produces the series, has won a total 11 prizes over the past six years, breaking the record for the most-awarded Black artist in Emmys history.
The title was previously held by cinematographer Donald A. Morgan.
It was a close call; Morgan was nominated this year for his work on sitcoms ‘The Conners’, ‘The Upshaws’ and ‘Last Man Standing’, but left empty-handed.
RuPaul also holds the record for the most consecutive wins of the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program prize, having taken home the accolade for six consecutive years.
Later this year, RuPaul’s classic debut album ‘Supermodel of the World’ will be reissued on vinyl to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Tommy Boy Music.
The drag superstar first sashayed onto the music scene almost three decades ago with hit singles including Supermodel (You Better Work) – the first of three UK Top 40 hits from the LP.
It also features the singles Back to My Roots – a US Dance No. 1, alongside A Shade Shady (Now Prance) – and House of Love.
