Robbie Williams has recorded an EDM album in lockdown.

The former Take That star, who recently dropped his latest holiday track Can’t Stop Christmas, has teased the project, revealing he’s moving in a new direction for his 13th LP.

He tells Zoe Ball on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show: “I’ve done a dance album. I think the youngsters call it electronic dance music – I’m now doing EDM.”

The Angels hitmaker goes on to explain he wrote 50 songs for the record but has “maybe more than that now,” ahead of its Spring 2021 release date.

Robbie also says he’s going to form his own band to front the record – Stoke House Mafia, a reference to 2010s dance act Swedish House Mafia – following his recent claims he’s also teaming up with Australian songwriter and producer pals Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe for a new group.

“We’re forming a band everyone,” he reveals. “I’ve got songs coming out that will not be under the name of Robbie Williams.”

It’s one in a string of ambitious plans from the singer, who, after taking up painting during lockdown, is also hoping to open a number of pop-up art galleries around the globe – in which he’ll also perform his new music.

“What I’m gonna do is rent a space, put my art in there. During the day it’ll be a gallery,” he continued. “Then at night I shall be DJing and it will be a musical venue, something the old folks will call a rave. I’ll be on the espressos. Oh yes I will. Quadruple espresso. Doing it old school.

Robbie’s frequent collaborator Guy Chambers’ revealed earlier this year that the coronavirus pandemic had delayed work on the star’s forthcoming record.

His most recent album, The Christmas Present, topped the UK Albums Chart following its release in 2019.
