Robbie Williams is planning his return to the live stage later this year.
The former Take That star’s residency at Las Vegas’ Encore Theater was cut short in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while his last UK dates took place in 2019.
Now, the Rock DJ hitmaker is plotting a return to live performing – provided it’s safe to do so.
“Hopefully I’m going to go on tour at the end of this year. But you see how this year has gone,” he said (via music-news.com).
“I think every summer we’re going to think it’s over and then every winter it’s going to come back.
“Every time I’ve had a guess that this is going to be over, I’ve been completely wrong.”
Although Robbie admits the pandemic has been a “terrifying” time, he’s raring to get back to work and throw himself into live performing.
“It’s terrifying for many, many reasons but personally and selfishly I haven’t been able to gig, I haven’t been able to do a tour,” added the Feel star.
Robbie isn’t just focusing on music, with a biopic helmed by ‘The Greatest Showman’ filmmaker Michael Gracey also in the works.
According to Gracey, he’s spent several hours speaking to Robbie to get a feel for the project, which is tentatively titled ‘Better Man’.
“As for how we represent Robbie in the film, that bit is top secret. I want to do this in a really original way,” he said.
“I remember going to the cinema as a kid and there were films that blew me away and made me say as I sat there in the cinema, ‘I’ve never seen this before’. I just want the audience to have that feeling.’
Gracey adds: “All I can say is the approach is top secret, but the goal is to generate that feeling I just described.
“It’s this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy.
“Unlike some people who were born prodigies or musical geniuses and you follow the narrative of the world catching up to their brilliance, this isn’t that story.”
