P!nk has been named the most played female artist of the 21st century in the UK.

The singer, who launched her career in 2000 with debut album ‘Can’t Take Me Home’, beat the likes of Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Whitney Houston to land the top spot on PPL’s countdown.

The music licensing company’s rundown has been compiled ahead of National Album Day and is based on exclusive music usage and airplay data from UK radio stations and television channels.

Over the past two decades, P!nk has released a further seven LPs, featuring hits including Just Like a Pill, So What, Just Give Me a Reason and Walk Me Home.

Queen of Pop Madonna comes in at No. 2 on the rundown, closely followed by Katy Perry, Rihanna and Lady Gaga at 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer at PPL, says: “National Album Day is a fantastic platform to showcase the importance of the album format and PPL is proud to be part of the celebrations this year with our chart of the century’s most played female artists.

“This chart brings together an incredible array of talent who have recorded some of the UK’s favourite music, including a number of the biggest and most influential albums of all time.”

National Album Day 2021 takes place on 16 October (21) and will celebrate Women in Music, with exclusive vinyl reissues of classic albums from stars including Belinda Carlisle, Dido, Marianne Faithfull, Gabrielle, Kylie Minogue and more.
