Peter Gabriel could land his first No. 1 album in more than 35 years with ‘i/o’.
The 10th solo LP from the former Genesis star is his first collection of new material since 2002’s ‘Up’.
In the first look at this week’s UK Albums Chart, the collection is at No. 2 – behind K-pop group ATEEZ – with just 1,500 chart units between them.
If it maintains its position, ‘i/o’ will become his highest-charting album in 31 years, since 1992’s No. 2-peaking ‘Us’, which was also his most-recent Top 10 studio set.
In a review of the album, RETROPOP called ‘i/o’ “a creative project [Gabriel] needed to undertake” and “a testament to [his] enduring artistry”.
