OMD are gearing up to announce their 14th studio album, ‘Bauhaus Staircase’.
Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys first shared details of their latest project last year and look set to finally unveil the project after sharing a teaser on social media.
Alongside a new picture of the electronic group, they confirmed the LP is “coming soon” and posted a link to BauhausStaircase.com, which prompts users to join the band’s mailing list.
‘Bauhaus Staircase’ will be OMD’s first album since ‘The Punishment Of Luxury’ in 2017 and, speaking to RETROPOP earlier this year, Paul revealed some of the tracks on the forthcoming LP were born “decades” ago.
“There’s some songs on the new album that we wrote for previous albums and couldn’t find a way to finish,” he shared. “So we waited and went back to them and figured them out.
The release coincides with the 45th anniversary of OMD’s formation and, reflecting on its creation, the musician admitted the album-making process is far simpler now than it was in times gone by.
“We put our own pressure on now; it’s not like we have a contractual obligation,” Paul smiled. “‘The Punishment Of Luxury’ was a fan favourite – they put it up there with ‘Dazzle Ships’ and ‘Architecture & Morality’ – so we’ve set the bar high for ourselves.
“But it’s just about making sure that we have a record that’s good enough and that’s worthy of release.”
