Olly Alexander has insisted reports that he’s being lined up as ‘Doctor Who’s next leading star are false.
According to The Sun, Olly is “on the verge of being announced as the new Doctor,” with sources claiming he’s set to take over Jodie Whittaker in the role.
“Negotiations are at an advanced stage,” it is claimed. “He’s been heavily promoted for the role by Russell — who he’s worked closely with on other projects.”
Olly appeared on Russell’s hit show ‘It’s a Sin’ as Ritchie Tozer, exploring the rise of the AIDS pandemic in the ‘80s.
However, representatives for the Years & Years frontman have shut down speculation, insisting “Olly is focusing on his music, for the time being”.
“Even though Olly is often contacted by cybermen, I’m afraid I have to exterminate this speculation,” a spokesperson told Variety.
“As nice as it is to see interest in this story regenerate, it just isn’t true.”
The BBC has yet to respond to the speculation.
Meanwhile, Olly has been busy dominating the charts with a number of A-list collaborations, recently teaming up with Elton John for a cover of Pet Shop Boys’ It’s a Sin.
He also partnered with Kylie Minogue on a remix of his own track Starstruck, and it’s rumoured Olly has also written a track for the pop icon’s upcoming ‘DISCO’ deluxe album.
