Nelly Furtado is back with a newfound confidence amid her return to pop.
The Say It Right hitmaker released her most recent album, ‘The Ride’, in 2017, but this year made a surprise comeback with the Dom Dolla collaboration Eat Your Man.
She later reunited with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland on Keep Going Up – their first track together since Give It To Me in 2007 – and in a new interview Nelly opened up about her current mindset.
“I’m just leaning in a lot more,” she told People of her decades-long career. “I’m leaning into what I do for a living and I’m finally realising 23 years later, I’m really good at this.
“I love being on stage. I love writing songs. I love spreading joy.”
Nelly debuted back in 2000 with ‘Whoa, Nelly!’ and topped the charts with ‘Loose’ in 2006, scoring hits such as I’m Like A Bird, Maneater and Big Hoops along the way.
Speaking about her future plans, she recently revealed she’s been in the studio for the past year and has recorded “a hundred songs in the last 18 months”.
“I have so much music. I’ve recorded a hundred songs in the last 18 months, and I’m so excited to bring people new music,” she shared.
“I’ve surrounded myself with so many creative people in the studio over the last year. I’ve taken a ‘the more, the merrier’ approach and understood that you have to be open to staying exciting and fresh,” she shared.
“It’s all about staying creative, being out there, listening to music, and being in the mix,” the Canadian star continued. “You can’t expect to just rest on your laurels and then one day saunter into the studio and make good music.”
