Natalie Imbruglia is back with ‘Just Drive’, the latest track to be lifted from her forthcoming album, ‘Algorithm‘.
The single is the third to be lifted from the LP, following ‘Upside Down‘ and the title song, with the full project set to arrive on September 4 via Imbruglia’s own Landgirl Records.
A sleek electro-pop number, the track layers the Australian-British star’s tender vocals over flourishing synths and pulsing beats, as she ruminates in the aftermath of a breakup and pushes forward in moving on.
“I wrote ‘Just Drive’ about a breakup, and about something I think a lot of us do, which is hiding how we feel to make other people feel better,” she says. “Sometimes you’d rather go through it on your own, as hard as that is.
“You love the other person so much, you don’t want to put them through it too.”
On its accompanying music video, Imbruglia adds: “This video was shot on my iPhone by Amy Lee and Tara Smith who also did my hair. I think I’ll have to share the out-takes from this one as they are hilarious!
“Special thank you to David Lopez-Edwards for the beautiful co-direction and edit on this one – all from your sick bed… I’m forever grateful!”

A collaboration with MyRiot, David Sneddon, Fraser T Smith, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Anu Pillai, Tobie Tripp, Mark Crew and Dan Priddy, she says of the project: “I chose to work with collaborators who also co-produce so from start to finish we were all so invested in every song.
“I really hope that people get as much joy from listening to this record as we did making it. And that they dance their arses off.”
Touching on the personal circumstances that inspired the music, she adds: “This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a record.
“It also happened to coincide with the most challenging time I’ve had with my mental health. This is the beauty of music and artistic expression. You can take something dark and turn it into light.”
‘Algorithm’ is released on September 4 and available to pre-order from Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more.
