The London production of ‘Hairspray’ has been cancelled for 10 days after a team member tested positive for coronavirus.
Bosses have taken the decision after a member of the production, which takes place at the London Coliseum and stars Michael Ball and Marisha Wallace, contracted Covid-19.
In a statement, they explain: “Unfortunately, despite extremely robust measures being in place, a member within the Hairspray company has sadly tested positive for Covid-19,” a statement reads.
So sad for everyone who had tickets for @HairsprayLondon this week and for our brilliant company who are devastated at being unable to resume shows until 14th July. But the Beat is only paused and never stops!!!! miss you ❤️xxx

“We want to reassure all of our audiences that due to the strict processes we have in place at the London Coliseum, this registered case will not have come into contact with anyone visiting the venue and we are confident that we have adhered to all the required health and safety requirements.
“The safety of our customers remains our number one priority. Everyone at both the London Coliseum and in the Hairspray team are so sorry that this means these performances cannot go ahead.”
In his own statement, Michael added on Twitter: “So sad for everyone who had tickets for
@HairsprayLondon this week and for our brilliant company who are devastated at being unable to resume shows until 14th July.
“But the Beat is only paused and never stops!”
The show opened in June but will remain offstage until July 14.
