Melanie C is confident Little Mix will do “great things” after Jesy Nelson’s departure.
The singer quit ‘The X Factor’-winning group in December last year, citing mental health concerns as her cause for departure.
It’s a situation Spice Girls star Melanie knows all too well, with her bandmate Geri Horner exiting the Too Much group in 1998 following the release of second album ‘Spiceworld’.
They went on to successfully release music as a four-piece and the star is confident Little Mix will be able to do the same.
Reflecting on the situation Jade Thirwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards have found themselves in, she told the Daily Mirror: “I absolutely adore Jesy, but the three girls carrying on I think are as fantastic now as they’ve ever been and they’ll all continue to do great things whatever they do.
“They are all incredible vocalists and great role models as well.”
Admitting Geri leaving was “tough” on the rest of the band, Melanie continued: “With our experience with Geri leaving we missed her. We went through a phase of being quite angry with her.
“But we understood it was something she needed to do and she did make her apology at Wembley a few years ago, to the fans and us actually.
“Now so much water has gone under the bridge. Life is full of so many twists and turns and nothing stays the same. You have to be adaptable and ready for change.”
During the final show of the Spice Girls’ 2019 ‘Spice World’ comeback tour, Geri apologised for her premature exit, admitting: “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I left. I was just being a brat… It is good to be back with the girls I love.”
Spice Girls are celebrating 25 years in music with a new four-track ‘Wannabe’ EP, featuring three versions of their classic debut single – including a rare demo – plus previously unheard track Feed Your Love.
Both the 12″ Vinyl and Cassette editions of the ‘Wannabe’ EP are available to pre-order now.
