Mel C’s new album is inspired by the renewed sense of girl power she felt during the Spice Girls’ Spice World – 2019 Tour last year.
The singer is gearing up to release her eighth studio album, featuring new single Blame It On Me, and she told Brooke Reese on Apple Music she “went into the studio and wanted to make something really danceable, but really thoughtful as well”.
“You know, I think being on the stage with the girls last year, it kind of made me feel so reflective and Who I Am was kind of the perfect song to launch the album because it was about that self-acceptance of all these aspects of yourself.
“The album is just more of that. It’s about relationships, it’s about situations, it’s about self-love,” Mel explained. “I want it to be really empowering and thoughtful, but just party time as well.”
Reflecting on the two single’s she’s released so far, she continued: “Who I Am… was about self-acceptance and I feel it was a really feel-good song, but I wanted it to be empowering too.
“Blame It On Me has got a bit more attitude, that one’s got a bit more swagger.”
