Released: April 1
Marvin Gaye’s seminal ‘What’s Going On’ sounds better than ever thanks to a new 50th anniversary pressing.
Following an expanded digital reissue last year, the 2LP premium vinyl release features direct-to-analog mastering from the original primary album tape reels – one of the first times this has been done since 1971.
Alongside the full album in its original configuration, a bonus LP features four rare cuts making their vinyl debut, including a “stripped” version of the title song, plus all six original mono single mixes and their B-sides.
Packaged in an original gatefold with complete lyrics, the release also includes printed sleeves with track details, a rare image from the cover sessions, and a brief essay honouring arranger David Van De Pitte. The Limited Edition version comes with a set of lithographs.
A fitting celebration of one of music’s classic albums – this 50th anniversary reissue is a must-have.
